Common use cases

ID card watermark · anti-fraud

When applying for banking, renting or onboarding, you often submit ID card copies. Adding a watermark like "For X Bank 2026 mortgage only" prevents the ID being repurposed for loans, account opening, etc. Use tile mode with 30–50% opacity.

Business license / contract / document watermark

When sending business licenses, account-opening permits or contract scans to partners, a "for X purpose only" watermark restricts reuse. Same applies to electronic copies of diplomas, driver's licenses and passports.

Website ICP filing watermark

In ICP filing materials, ID documents and authorization letters need watermarks. Common format: "For example.com website ICP filing only". Red tile is the recommended style across major Chinese cloud providers.

Anti-theft / copyright protection

Adding author signature or domain to photos, product shots and illustrations before posting on social platforms substantially reduces direct theft. Use corner for subtle copyright marks; tile for strong anti-theft coverage.

How to use

  1. Upload the image — click the upload area or drag the file in. Supports PNG / JPG / WebP. Images are processed locally and never uploaded.
  2. Type the watermark text — state the purpose and recipient explicitly, e.g. "For X Bank mortgage application only" or "For example.com ICP filing only". The more specific, the harder to misuse.
  3. Adjust style — pick a layout (tile is most crop-resistant), color (red/gray for filings), size, opacity and rotation. Preview updates live.
  4. Download PNG — click the download button to save locally, or use "Copy image" to paste straight into chat or email.

FAQ

Is it legal to add a watermark to an ID card?

Yes, and widely recommended. Adding a "for X use only" text watermark to an ID card photocopy or scan is an effective way to prevent the document being misused, and many regulators have published similar guidance.

What text should the watermark contain?

Include three elements: purpose + recipient + date. For example "For X Bank 2026 mortgage only". The more specific, the harder to misuse. For website filings, use "For yourdomain.com ICP filing only".

Where is the safest place to put the watermark?

Tile mode is safest — text is laid diagonally across the whole image and cannot be cropped out. Corner watermarks are easily cropped away. For ID cards or bank cards, use tile + semi-transparent gray for both safety and legibility.

Will my image be uploaded to a server?

No. All processing happens locally in your browser (Canvas 2D draws pixels directly). Image files and watermark text never leave your device. You can even use this tool offline.

Can the watermark be removed in Photoshop?

Text watermarks are visible pixel changes; a skilled user can erase them in Photoshop, but it takes time and leaves traces. For everyday misuse (chat-app forwarding, hot-linking), text watermarks are deterrent enough. For removal-resistant invisible signatures, use our Hidden Watermark tool.

What if the watermarked image is too large?

This tool exports PNG (lossless, sharpest edges). If the file is too large to upload or send, run it through PNG Compress to shrink further, or use PNG to JPG to switch to a smaller format.
